Auckland to Port Waikato

The mouth of the Waikato River river offers a unique coastal experience only an hour away from Auckland City. Experience massive sand dunes, great fishing, and an interesting hinterland where part of the Lord of the Rings was filmed.

Some things to do at Port Waikato or close by
  • Take a walk through the Sand Dunes
  • Enjoy a beautiful Sunset at Sunset Beach
  • Explore the backroads and see beautiful limestone formations (note: most of this is on private land, so be respectful)
  • Go Fishing
  • Go Surfing
  • Go Horseback Riding
  • See the Nikau Caves (one hour from Port Waikato)
